Brazilian tanners build contacts in China

24 Brazilian tanneries exhibited at the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai during the first week of September. According the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), the event registered good business, as well as a collection of promising contacts for the next 12 months.
Brazilian exhibitors gathered 1100 contacts, particularly from China, during the three-day show. The Brazilian participation at ACLE had the support from the ‘Brazilian Leather project’, an initiative of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) for the promotion of leather exports.
“China has established itself as an important country for Brazilian leather. China and Hong Kong are the two main markets for Brazilian leather exports, accounting for almost 36% of total sales to external markets”, says Executive President of CICB, José Fernando Bello. Even though China leads the way, Bello says that the Chinese market has continued to show positive growth in 2014 for Brazilian exporters.
According to Sérgio Sfreddo, from the commercial department of Gobba Leather, ACLE 2014 provided a chance to strengthen business relationships with partners. “The event was very important in order to establish contacts and future business”, says Sfreddo. Gobba Leather produces finished leather for the furniture market.
